hose: two meanings were current in S.'s time,— (1) long stockings, e.g. Gent. II. i. 85; (2) article of clothing for the legs and loins, close-fitting breeches or drawers, e.g. 1H4 II. iv. 243; esp. in DOUBLET “and ;—French ,” large, wide breeches H5 III. vii. 60, Mac. II. iii. 16.
