Hemiolia

ἡμιολία). A particular kind of ship (Gell. x. 25), used chiefly by the Greek pirates (Arrian, Anab. iii. 2 Anab., 5); constructed in such a manner that half of its side was left free from rowers, in order to form a deck for fighting purposes.
