Ξάνθος a river in Asia Minor, at whose mouth was the city of Patara, site of an oracle of Apollo, cf. P. 1.39, “Λύκιε — Φοῖβε. ὣς ἦρα θεὸς σάφα εἴπαις <*>άνθον ἤπειγεν καὶ Ἀμαζόνας εὐίππους καὶ ἐς Ἴστρον ἐλαύνων” (sc. “Ἀπόλλων”: Boeckh refers to the Trojan Xanthos) O. 8.47
