τρί-πος , οδος: tripod. In Homer usually a three-footed kettle for warming water, Il. 23.702. Also used to mix wine in, as an ornament, and as a prize in games, Il. 18.373, Il. 23.264. (The cut is from an ancient relief, representing a Delphic tripod, which was a favorite subject of representation.)
