Taras

（*Ta/ras), a son of Poseidon by a nymph, is said to have traversed the sea from the promontory of Taenarum to the south of Italy, riding on a dolphin, and to have founded Tarentum in Italy (Paus. 10.10.4, 13.5), where he was worshipped as a hero. (Strab. vi. p.279.)

In the article on Soranus, we find: "at this present time (1848)" and this date seems to reflect the dates of works cited. 1873 - probably the printing date.
