Tyler, Moses Coit 1835-

Clergyman; born in Griswold, Conn., Aug. 2, 1835; graduated at Yale College in 1857; studied theology at Yale and Andover; Professor of English at the University of Michigan in 1867-81; ordained in the Protestant Episcopal Church in 1883; Professor of American History at Cornell University from 1881 till his death. His publications include History of American Literature during the colonial period; Manual of English Literature; Life of Patrick Henry; Three men of letters; The literary history of the American Revolution; and Glimpses of England, social, political, and literary. He died in Ithaca, N. Y., Dec. 28, 1900.
