Active Preparations.

--A recent letter from New York says:

‘ The Government is moving with great vigor in naval affairs. Almost every steamer, suitable for blockading purposes, is either chartered or undergoing examination with that view. The following steamers were sold by H. B. Cromwell to the War Department yesterday: R. R. Cuyler, Huntsville and Montgomery. It is probable that the propellers Mount Vernon, Monticello, Potomac, Locust Point, Parkersburg and Chesapeake will also be purchased.
