Camp Masked Battery, October 3d, 1861.
At a meeting of the members of the Governor's Mounted Guard, held this day, the following resolutions were unanimously adopted:
Resolved, That we have learned with the deepest regret of the death of our fellow-trooper and companion, J. A. Beard, cut off in the flower of manhood by sickness contracted in his country's service.
Resolved, That by his manly and soldier-like bearing, he had united himself by strong ties of friendship to his companions in arms, always having proven himself ready for duty and evinced a spirit of kindness to those with whom he came in contact; and, upon one occasion, in the moment of serious danger, displayed great fortitude.
Resolved, That these resolutions be published in the ‘"Daily Dispatch,"’ of Richmond, and a copy transmitted to his family, expressing our condolence at their sad bereavement.
