A Chapter in life.

--At Detroit, Michigan on Tuesday last, a couple were arraigned at the Police Court on a charge of adultery.--The complainant failing to appear, the woman against whom the charge was preferred, explained the matter by handing to the court a very dirty-looking slip of paper, on which was drawn the following rather strange agreement:

Detroit, Feb. 10, 1853
This is to certify that I, James Martin, of the city of Detroit, do hereby give my wife, for her dishonesty to me, to John Warford, of the said city, hereafter and forever, and that I will take no action against them for living together hereafter; and the said Mary Ann Martin, my wife, agrees to take no action against me, if I marry again.

[Signed] James Martin,
her
Mary Ann M Martin.
