--Two prisoners from the boat sunk last night were brought in to-day. They say the transports Henry Clay was sunk and the Ward burned, and the ram Lafayette sunk by our batteries last night. They also say that the remainder of the expedition will come down to-night. The battery on the Peninsula ceased firing late this afternoon. No damage done. [fourth Dispatch.] Jackson, Miss., April 16. --Gen. Stevenson reports that the enemy's batteries opposite Vicksburg opened on the morning of the 17th, two 32 pounder Parrott's firing. Three casemates are visible with the telescope. Latest. Jackson, Miss., April 18. --Col. Cookrill is safe at Grand Gulf. The gunboats are quiet thirty miles above. The river at Grand Gulf yesterday was full of burning cotton and fragments of boats. Scouts at Vicksburg, from the upper river, report troops still coming down. The battery opposite had a good range to-day, but no damage done — The gunboats are at New Carthage.
Fight in North Carolina. Goldsboro', N. C., April 18. --Maj. Nethercutt commanding about 120 men of the 8th North Carolina battalion, engaged and fought a large force of Abolitionists at Sand Ridge, 16 miles this side of Newbern, yesterday morning. The fight lasted one hour and twenty minutes. Our loss is two killed and four wounded. The latter have arrived in town. Maj. Nethercutt having retired behind the breastworks, was reinforced, and again advanced upon the enemy, forcing him to fall back in turn. The Yankee force is estimated at 2,000.--Their loss is unknown but must have been considerable.
Georgia Legislature. Milledgeville, Ga., April 18. --The Senate has passed the House bill organizing the State guard militia, including all persons between the ages of 18 and 60 years not subject to conscription, and abrogating the commissions. The Legislature adjourned at half-past 12 to-day.
From Chattanooga. Chattanooga, Tenn., April 18. --There are rumors of fighting near Tuscumbia. No details. All quiet in front.
