Hill, on the 2d and 3d of July, sustained fearful losses in killed and wounded, being proportionately greater than that of any other brigade engaged. And it is not too much to say the 3d, were in every sense as brilliant and heroic as that of Pickett's division, which has been immortalized by Virginia historians.
