y Colonel in Hampton's Legion. James Connor commanded a brigade in Lee's Army. Ellison Capers led a brigade in the Army of Tennessee. John D. Kennedy led a brigade in Longstreet's Corps. John S. Preston, chief of the Bureau of Conscription. of civil engineering until the outbreak of the Civil War, when he entered the Confederate Army.
