fter the close of the war he assisted in organizing the Congaree Mounted Rifles, of which he served four years as second lieutenant. L. T. H. Daniel L. T. H. Daniel was born in Laurens county, S. C., July 1, 1841, the son of James W. Daniel, a native of Laurens county, who during the civil war was in the State service guarding prisoners at Florence, and who is now a resident of Abbeville. His wife, the mother of this subject, was Eliza Anderson, of Laurens county, the daughter of Thomas Anderson. Mr. Daniel was reared and received his education in Laurens county, was engaged in teaching when the war began, and on that account was exempt. However, in December, 1864, he joined the Fourth regiment, South Carolina State troops, under Capt. George F. Anderson, and served until the close of the war on the South Carolina coast. He took part in the battles at Pocotaligo and White Point and was in the retreat with Johnston's army as far as Raleigh. His command returned to South Caro

The Wizard of the world --Prof. Anderson--is now giving a series of his astonishing entertainments at Mechanics' Institute Hall, where everybody should call to see him — Whatever may be thought of the ordinary operators in legerdemain, and however common their performances have become, the fact that Prof. Anderson's feats are all new and attractive, and of an entirely different order to those commonly seen, is the best definition of his unbounded success. In New York and other large cities, where shows of all kinds are to be found at every corner, Prof A. had a great run during his stay, and met with the most triumphant success. Apart from his own skill, the performances of his interesting daughters are additional attractions of a high order. See him this evening, if you wish to enjoy a rare treat.

Fun for the million. --If there is any person, young or old, grave or gay, who can attend Professor Anderson's entertainments at Mechanics' Institute Hall without being amused and instructed, we should like to see who it is. All his feats — or rather the greater proportion of them — are not only new but really astonishing to those who know nothing of the modus operandi by which they are performed.--His burning cauldron, into which he pours five or six gallons of water, and then takes out game and poultry enough to feed a regiment of hungry men, is, of itself, worth the price of admission. Scores of other tricks, equally as marvellous, are performed each evening; among which is the spirit-rapping car, which answers questions as it moves along the hal
