ction. The early morn promised rain, and there were consequently few spectators, but later in the day it cleared, and the house gradually filled with ladies. At night the Rev. R. O. Burton preached at Cumberland street Church, and Rev. P. W. Archer at Granby street. When about to make the opening prayer, Mr. Archer said, "The earnest prayers of this congregation are invoked in behalf of our well beloved brother, the Rev. L. M. Lee, and his deeply afflicted family." About mid-day he was stricken with apoplexy, and has from that time been in a very critical condition, and to-night there are no indications of the slightest improvement in his condition. This announcement seemed to thrill the assembled auditory, as well it might. A recurrence to the above will show that so late as one o'clock the Doctor was upon the Conference floor speaking, and, apparently, in perfect health. Past that hour I was talking with him, enjoying that delightful humor which rendered his convers

, "I want you to hold up your hands all the year." Revs Nelson Head, from the Committee on the State of the Church, presented a report, embodving a pastoral address to the people and churches within the bounds of the Conference. The pastoral address was a lengthy but able paper. The report was adopted. The Secretary called the list of those circuits and stations from which no statistical report had been received. The examination of the character of Elders was resumed, and P. W. Archer, Geo. H. Rav, Frank Stanly, W. Carter, S V. Hoyle. Thos. A. Pearce, Jeseph Lear, John D. Southall, Jno. W. White, D. M. Wallace, B. F. Shelton, J. J. Lambkin, W. A. Smith, Jas. Jameson, were passed. Just here Bishop Andrew rose and announced a message to himself and the Conference from Dr. L. M. Lee, whose physicians considered the symptoms this morning favorable, and desired the Bishop to come and see him, and to give his love to all the preachers. Rev. Henry B. Cowles offered

nce of oral and documentary evidence, which he could not by reasonable diligence have here at this time, and which he believes will fully vindicate his character, the said defendant meantime to remain suspended from the functions of a minister. This action was had by a vote well nigh unanimous, the general desire seeming to be to give the accused party full and ample scope for defence. And the Conference adjourned until to-morrow at 9 o'clock. During the morning session, Rev. P. W. Archer, told of a preacher upon his district who was sent to a very poor appointment, who, upon reaching it, could find no place to board his family; but who determined to do his work, hired a house, and not having means to buy furniture, made for himself a bedstead and some other articles, then made a bed or broom straw, not having feathers or money to purchase, and thus preparing for his family as best he might, addressed himself to his work, and succeeded so well as to build up the Church,

Prayer was offered by Dr. Carter. It was resolved to proceed with the unfinished business, the election of delegates to the General Conference, and that a messenger be sent to the Presiding Elders to bring their votes. Three ballots were had without effecting an election, and on the fourth the Rev. Jos. H. Davis was elected eleventh delegate. It was resolved that three alternates be elected now, and upon the first ballot two were chosen, namely, Rev. James A. Dunean and Rev. P. W. Archer. A ballot was then had for the third alternate, which resulted in no election, and another was about to be taken, when it was moved that the candidate receiving the highest number of votes upon the last ballot be declared elected — which motion prevailed; and thereupon Rev. John C. Granberry was declared elected. The Joint Board of Stewards made another and final report, which, on motion, was adopted by the Conference. The Board distributed — dollars, which paid about sixty

The Committee of Twelve, to whom was referred the record of the trial of Rev. P. W.
