--The Savannah Republican, of Tuesday, says:
A doting father, as he rode in from the country yesterday, was met by a messenger who reported to him the sad news of the death of a favorite son. "How and where did he die?" was the impulsive interrogatory.
"Under Beauregard, at Manassas, fighting against odds of two to one" was the reply.
"And how went the day?" was immediately ejaculated.
"The enemy were routed and put to flight," was the response.-- "Thank God!" said the father--"Then I am satisfied — I give up my boy."
