Military absentees.
We are informed that General Beauregard has issued a general order to the Colonels commanding the different regiments of the army of the Potomac, directing them to furnish the sheriffs of the towns and counties from which their respective companies come, with a list of absentees from their commands, and requiring the sheriffs forth with to arrest and return to their camps all such persons who may be fit for duty.
We have noticed a detachment of soldiers in Richmond for ing them to Manassas.
It is said that these vigilant "detectives" spare neither rank nor condition, but arrest a Major or a Captain with as little scruple as they do a private.
The rule does not apply to those who have proper passes to go home within a given period, or surgeon's certificates to show that they are unfit for duty; but the action of Gen. Beauregard shows that vigorous measures are to be applied, and absentees will see the propriety of reporting themselves voluntarily for duty.
