Arrests. --Cornelius Donahoe and Turner Mullin were arrested yesterday on a charge of stealing a still-worm and other copper implements, from A. J. Byrne, near Voegler's Spring; and in consequence of their representations, Joseph Lepinski was also taken into costody. The copper is alleged to have been sold to Wm. Ready, locksmith.--Sam, slave of Harriet Courtney, arrested for stealing lead from H. M. Smith.--John, slave of Mr. Wiedemyer, charged with driving his cart over a negro woman, was whipped by order of Alderman Sadler.--Wm. Coleman was locked up for creating a disturbance at one of the Georgia Hospitals.
--The cases brought to the Mayor's notice yesterday were generally of the minor sort, and we dispose of them in the briefest possible way: Joseph Ricely, charged with abusing and threatening Caroline Lohman, was committed in default of security to keep the peace. Wm. B. McCormack, arrested as a suspicious person, being unprepared to leave the city, was sent back to jail. Terrance Mullin, Cornelius Donahoe, and Joseph Lipinski, charged with stealing distillery fixtures from A. J. Byrne, were sent before Justice Nettles, the alleged offence having been committed in Henrico county, beyond the Mayor's jurisdiction. The stolen copper. --Terrence Mullin, Cornelius Donahoe, and Joseph Lipinski, were yesterday arraigned before Justice Nettles, of Henrico county, on a charge of stealing a lot of copper fixtures from A. J. Byrne's distillery, near Voegler's spring. After an investigation of the circumstances, Mullin and Donahoe were discharged from custody, but recognized to appear as witnesses against Lipinski, who was committed for further examination.
County Court. --In the county court of Henrico, on Friday last, Charles Bruce was fined $5 and costs for neglecting to keep in good repair a road, of which he was surveyor Albert A. Morris was tried upon a similar charge, but not convicted, it having been shown that the state of his health prevented the proper performance of his trust. R. T. Hundley was fined $10 for permitting a slave to go at large. The case of Jos. Lepinsky, charged with stealing a copper cylinder, worm and still-head from A. J. Byrne, was examined on Saturday. The prisoner having proved that he purchased the copper in ignorance of the fact that it was stolen property, was discharged from further prosecution.--George F. Brown, who stood bound to appear and answer an indictment for misdemeanor, failed to respond when called, and his recognizance was declared forfeited. The November term of the Court closed on Saturday evening.
