Charge of forgery. --Wm. Cockson, employed as a clerk at the depot of the Richmond and Danville Railroad, was arrested by officers Blankinship and Morris, last Saturday, on a charge of forging the name of T. McAllister & Co. to a sight draft on Enders, Sutton & Co. for $200. The accused is an Englishman, and has papers to show that he served as paymaster in the Crimean war. During his residence here he has created a good impression on the minds of those who have become acquainted with him, and they are averse to believing him capable of committing a crime. The money was paid on the draft, we believe, in October last, and it was not until the recent arrival of Mr. McAllister in the city, that the development was made which led to the arrest of Cockson. It appears that the accused had been employed by McAllister & Co. at Covington, and subsequently, becoming hard pushed for money, asked Mr. McAllister a loan. The latter at once made him a present of a draft for thirty dollars.
