In Troy, Rennselear county, on Saturday night, there was an immense gathering of citizens of that city and the adjoining villages. The Whig states the number in attendance at eight thousand. Ex-Mayor Alfred Workyps presided. One hundred vice-presidents and some fifty secretaries were appointed. The speakers were Ira Shafer, Esq., of this city; Hon. D. L. Seymour and Justice Cornelius, of Troy. We have the speech of Mr. Shafer before us. It is a bold and manly expression of indignation at the attempts that are being made to despoil the citizens of their constitutional rights, and at the same time an able and convincing review of the legal questions involved. The meeting re-adopted the series of resolutions adopted in New York city, with the following added thereto: Resolved, That we fully and heartily endorse the language of our noble and truly patriotic
Absconded Slave--$25 reward. --Left my place on James river, upper end of Henrico county, on Sunday last, June 24, 1862. without any cause, my Servant Man, Cornelius, commonly called Buck. He is about 25 years of age, rather small, well made black, good teeth, likely, and no marks; about 5 feet 7 inches high. He is no doubt lurking about Richmond or endeavoring to get employment as servant in some of the camps, having many acquaintances among the servants in Richmond, but in no other place. Whipped. --The Mayor's police had another busy time yesterday settling with a number of negroes who were arrested on Monday night without passes. Each of the following received a number of stripes, varying from ten to thirty-nine: Pompey, Burwell and Henry, slaves of John Matter; Archer Hampton, a free negro; Mack Turpin, do.; Lewis, slave of G. F. Hicks; Cornelius, employed at the Richmond and Petersburg railroad; John, in the employ of the Richmond and Danville railroad, for passing a spurious $100 note.

Trial for Robbery. --Three negroes, named William, Cornelius, and Jenks, charged with breaking into and robbing the store room of Mr. James H. Grant, on Saturday night last, of a large quantity of provisions, were examined before the Mayor yesterday morning. Mr. Grant, whose farm is some miles from this city, fearing that he might be visited by the Yankee raiders occasionally prowling about the country, bad removed therefrom several barrels of sugar, 5,000 or 6,000 pounds of bacon, and other articles, to the store room over his factory, in this city, for safe keeping. The boys arraigned above slept over this store-room, and conceiving the idea of possessing themselves of some of the rich luxuries, fore up the plank flooring above and descended to the repository below. They then set to work and succeeded in passing through the aperture created by the removed planks several barrels of sugar and about two thousand pounds of bacon, the whole amounting in value to between $5,000 a
