Assault with an Axe George, a slave, the property of Capt. John H. Greaner, charged with making a violent assault, with an axe, upon Phebe, slave of Dr. Wellford, was arraigned before the Mayor yesterday. The evidence proved that George pursued the old woman, and hot only hit her with the axe, but kicked her, inflicting severe injuries. His excuse for this brutal conduct was that Phebe had insulted the memory of his mother by applying to him a name that does not admit of repetition. After having sated his vengeance, he was captured by James. Elmore and Tazewell Corr, and handed over to the police. The Mayor remanded the prisoner to be tried for felony before the Hustings Court in November next.
Mayor's Court. --With the exception of the prominent case elsewhere noticed, the proceedings at the Mayor's Court yesterday were devoid of interest. The list of inebriates was about as usual. The charge against Tazewell Corr. (whose name was originally given as Jasper Curr.) of stealing a watch and money from Lieut Wm. B. Lase. of the 4th Alabama regiment, was further continued.
Arrests. --A young man named James Elmore was arrested by officers Bibb and Blankinship, on Saturday night, as the abettor of Tazewell Corr in stealing a watch and $70 from Wm. B. Lane. James Tyler has been brought to the city by Constable Talley, of Hanover, and delivered over to the police, on a charge of stealing a cow from Jeremiah M. Smith, and selling her to John Miller.--Ephraim, slave of J. F. H. Mayo, and Sam, slave of Samuel Hastings, were arrested on Saturday night for petty larcenies.

Robbery. --James Elmore and Tazewell Corr, arrested for stealing a silver watch and gold chain, and $70 in money, from William B. Lane, of Alabama, were arraigned before the Mayor yesterday, and remanded to be examined before the Hustings Court in December, for felony. Mr. Lane seemed desirous of having it understood that he was not a Lieutenant, out only an ex-private in an Alabama regiment.
Hustings Court. --A fine of ten dollars and costs was yesterday imposed, upon Cosby & Anderson, for permitting their slave Albert to go at large, and hire himself contrary to law. John N. Eubank, charged with stabbing John George Aniker, was called, but came not; whereupon a nolle prosequi was entered by the Attorney for the Commonwealth. A Cassatti, charged with stealing a gold chain from Stefano Livero, was arraigned, and the Court. having heard the evidence, ordered his discharge. James A. McCann was tried for exhibiting a gaming table, commonly called faro bank, and the jury returned a verdict of not guilty; whereupon he was discharged from custody. William Watkins and Tazewell Corr, who have been sent on the be tried for felony, were allowed to give bail in the sum of $300 each.
Arrest of a Murderer. --John Fritz Kreibel, accused of the murder of Philip Sautter, who broke out of the City Jail on Monday, was arrested yesterday while making off by the line of the Virginia Central Railroad. Tazewell Corr, another one of the parties who freed themselves on the above occasion, was arrested in the Valley, having been found in one of his accustomed haunts.
Mayor's Court, Saturday. --Benjamin, slave of Sarah J. Ellis, was examined and sent to the Hustings Court for trial for stealing Jno, Cariton's trunk, containing $100 worth of clothing, $75 in money, and a silver watch. Thomas Foley, charged with engaging in an unnecessary fight with Tazewell Corr in the street, to the disturbance of the public peace, was examined and acquitted. Mrs. Elizabeth Cullen was arraigned for receiving a lot of meat, stolen from Mary Broderick, by Jas. Terry and Roddy Corby. The case was continued for additional evidence. Mrs. M. A. Pomfrey was sent on for trial before Judge Meredith for being engaged in the riot of the 2d of April, and entering Pollard &Walker's store, on Cary street, and helping herself to a lot of bacon. Damon, slave of Wm. A. Armistead, was ordered 10 lashes for going about without his pass. The case of Jesse White, for shooting John J. Andrews, was called up, and continued till Monday. Mayer's Court. --There were but few cases before this Court yesterday, and they were of minor importance. Tazewell Corr was required to give security on the charge of assaulting Thos. Faley, in the Valley; and some half-dozen men found by the watch on the sidewalk in various stages of drunkenness, were admonished and let off.
