The Vaudois Teacher --first attributed to Mrs. Hemans--which was adopted as a local poem among the Waldenses, who did not know its origin until 1875, when the Rev. J. C. Fletcher communicated the fact to the Moderator of the Waldensian Synod, having himself heard the poem sung by students of D'Aubigneas seminary at Geneva. On Mr. Mr. Fletcher's return to Italy, in 1875, he caused the fact of authorship to be conveyed to the Synod, whose members rose and cheered and caused the Moderator to write a letter, of which the following is a translation — the letter being dated from Torre Pellice, Piemont, Italie, September 13, 1875:-- Dear and honoured brother, I have recently learned by a letter from my friend, J. C. Fletcher, now residing in Naples, that you are the author of the charming little poem, The Vaudois Colporteur, which was translated several years ago in French by Professor de Felice, of Montauban, and of which there is also an excellent Italian translation made by M. Giovann
