New holder wanted. The last report made by Mr. J. J. Fry, Superintendent of the City Gas Works, to the Council, gave that body to understand that the wants of the city demanded an additional gas-holder, and a shed for the stowing of coal necessarily used in generating the gas. There being now no place to stow away any surplus, a casualty would soon bring us to an intimate acquaintance with "grim darkness." The average consumption of gas every twenty-four hours is now about 200,000 feet. The largest burning for several years past exceeded that amount 60,000 feet. The energetic superintendent deserves praise for his efficient management of the wor
