The extensive tin and hardware shop of Capt. D. B. Thompson, of Columbus, Ga., was destroyed by fire on Monday night last. The stock on hand was valued at from $50,000 to $60,000, and was insured for only $9,000. A notorious woman in New Orleans recently entrapped a wealthy citizen of that city, inducing him to convert his property into specie and make a trip with her into Mexico where she poisoned him and appropriated his fortune. She has been arrested. Revs. G. W. Carter, C. C. Gillespie and J. C. Wilkes of Chapel Hill, Texas, have been authorized to raise a regiment of lancers for the war. The Fort Smith (Ark.) News, of the 2d inst., says that a skirmish with the Jayha where in Kansas took place a few days ago, in which seven of them were killed and three taken prisoners.
