Haliburton, Thomas Chandler 1797-1865
Author; born in Windsor, Nova Scotia, in 1797; studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1820.
Later he became a member of the House of Assembly.
He was chief-justice of the court of common pleas in 1829, and was appointed judge of the supreme court in 1840.
He held this office till 1842, when he removed to England.
In 1859 he represented Launceston in Parliament as a Conservative, and remained there till 1865.
His publications include The clock-maker, or the sayings and doings of Samuel Slick, of Slickville, which consists of a collection of newspaper sketches satirizing New Englanders.
His other writings include The Attache, or Sam Slick in England; An Historical and statistical account of Nova Scotia; Bubbles of Canada; The old Judge, or life in a colony; Letter-bag of the Great Western; Rule and misrule of the English in America; Yankee stories; Traits of American humor, etc. He also edited a number of books, among them one on Th
