Amusements at an Irish wake. --Mrs. Mary O'Donna, a middle-aged Irish woman, was yesterday committed by the Mayor for want of surety to keep the peace for twelve months, she having been arrested on the charge of being drunk and disorderly in the neighborhood in which she lived. The officer who arrested Mary testified that he had been sent for to take her in custody, and when he arrived at the house where she was she had already whipped the widow of the deceased over whom a party had beenwoman out of the door, when he interfered and stopped her from doing so. When we mention the fact that this occurred at what is commonly known as an Irish wake, our readers will feel no surprise in learning that nearly all present were drunk. Mrs. O'Donna, as is usual in all cases where Irish women are arraigned for drunkenness, denied the allegation, and asserted that the whole matter had been fabricated against her out of spite.
