Daring assault. --Mr. Henry Maye, manager for Messrs. Talbott & Bro, on their farm near Manchester, was waylaid and assaulted with a club last Friday night by one of their negro men, named William, and would in all probability been killed but for the opportune arrival of two members of the Mallory troop, who were attracted to the spot by his cries of murder. Mr. Mayo received several terrible blows on his head, arms, and body, and will be confined to his bed for sometime by reason of his injuries. The negro made his escape.
Attempt to murder.--one hundred Dollars Reward. --Ran away from our farm, near Manchester, Chesterfield county, on last Friday night, after a murderous assault upon the overseer, our negro man William. He is between thirty-five and forty years old, black, smooth face, rather below the medium height, but thick not; is a carpenter by trade. Had on when he left a black slouch hat and light gray clothes. The above reward will be given for his apprehension and delivery to us, or placed in any jail so that we can get him.
