Holensh. pag. 202., IN the yeere 1218, Ranulph earle of Chester was sent into the Holy land by king Henry the third with a goodly company of souldiers and men of warre, to ayde the Christians there against the Infidels, which at the same time had besieged the city of Damiata ans there against the Infidels, which at the same time had besieged the city of Damiata in Egypt . In which enterprise the valiancy of the same earle after his comming thither was to his great praise most apparant. There went with him in that journey Saer de Quincy earle of Winchester , William de Albanie earle of Arundel , beside divers barons, as the lord Robert fitz Walter, John constable of Chester , William de Harecourt, and Oliver fitz Roy sonne to the king of England, and divers others.

THE last day of October the bishop of Winchester came to the Councell of Constance, which after the chusing of the Pope determined to take his journey to Jerusalem: where his eloquent perswasion so much prevailed, that he both perswaded my lords the Cardinals to unity and concord, and also moved them to proceed more speedily to the elecbishop of Winchester to Jerusalem, in the sixt yeere of the reigne of Henry the fift, which was the yeere of our Lord, 1417. Distress in Newfoundland. --Accounts from the Island of Newfoundland represent that great distress is likely to be experienced by its inhabitants there by the failure of the seal fishery. The results cannot yet be stated, further than it is the most disastrous on record. The arrivals from sea at 1st John's and Harbor Grace do not exceed 50,000. The shore cates in the District of Twilitiagete and Fogo exceeds 100,000 seals. It is estimated that the aggregate loss for the season will not fall short of $100,000--a large sum to a population of only 100,000.
