The Yankees in Western North Carolina. The Federals have occupied the Warm Springs, about eight miles from Asheville, N. C. In the skirmish defending the place Maj. John W. Woodfin was killed. Gen. Vance is in command of the Confederate forces in that vicinity. The Yankees were in considerable force, and had artillery with them.
