Another New book.[from the Nashville Christ an Advocate.] "Dr Vere--A Story of Plebelatis and Patricians, " by Rev. H. W. Hilliard, Ll. D. of Alabama, is now in press. Dr. Hilliard has long filled the public eye as an accomplished Christian gentleman. In Congress, in the pulpit, and on the platform, his rank for years has been with the first men of America Perhaps few men ever passed through the atmosphere of political life and came out more perfectly untarnished. He illustrated how compatible Christian excellence is with public service; and in the midst of corrupting influences, has borne himself loftily and above the break of defamation. Now that he is about to give us an illustration of his power with the pen as an author, we have but one fear, and that is that people will expect from the curator too much as a writer; and yet we have reason to believe that his book will be one of rare interest. The characters are drawn from real life, and they represent the most distingu
