Arrests. --Since Saturday the police have arrested the following persons, who will be examined before the Mayor this morning, viz: Landon Shell, on the charge of beating and killing Patrick Curtis, a substitute agent; Jas. A. Perdue, for stealing four hats from Powhatan Weisiger, worth $95; Charles Johnson, by order of the Mayor, as a suspicious character; John Doyle, for stealing, by force, $51 from George, slave of John C. Hughes; Peter Allen, for drunkenness, trespassing on the premises of James Madison, and resisting the officers; Robert, slave of — Turner, for having in his possession cloth stolen from John McDonough; and John Kelley, for stealing a gold watch.

nation of Robert Martin for receiving four pieces of gold stolen from Jacobs, knowing the same to have been stolen, was dismissed. Charles Amey was examined and sent on to be tried before Judge Lyons for stealing two boxes of tobacco from Kent & Wilson, at their factory, in Rose alley. Defendant sold the tobacco to a man named Heckler, who testified to the fact. James A. Perdue and Harrison Balley were remanded for final trial, on the charge of stealing four hats from Powhatan Weisiger. John Doyle was sent on to be tried before Judge Lyons for stealing from George, slave of John C. Hughes, $51 by force and violence. Charles Johnson was examined for stealing a horse from Edgar R Ford, and sent on for trial before Judge Lyons. Robert Burch was examined for having, on the 11th inst., broke into John F. ng $100 in C. S. notes from Joseph Kefler, on the 7th of April, Benjamin Slemmer, for breaking into the store of Joseph Knotts on the 2d day of April; Edward Murphrey, for breaking into W. D. Blair's store on the night of the 21st of April; James Hensly, for receiving on the 19th of April a lot of crockery stolen from persons unknown; Richard Duff, for stealing $170 from Charles Donoboe on the 3d of April; John Ginotti, for breaking into the storehouse of Dionesia Meoni on the 9th of November, 1862, with intent to commit larceny. Frank Hartford alias Frank Rosencranz, was tried for entering Powhatan Weisiger's hat store with intent to commit larceny, found guilty, and put in the penitentiary for 2½ years. George Burns, tried for stealing jewelry belonging to Thos. H. Ould's wife, was found guilty, and sent up for one year. William Sullivan was next put upon trial on the charge of robbing John C. Shafer's store of a large lot of goods. The case was pending at sundown.

The enemy were then driven to the New Market road, when, being found strongly entrenched, they were not pressed. Our loss is small; that of the enemy unknown. The brave General Gregg died at the head of his brigade. The Yankees Burn Rapid Ann bridge. An official dispatch from Gordonsville last night states that Yankee raiders burnt the railroad bridge over the Rapid Ann yesterday. From the Valley. A dispatch from General Early to General Lee, dated the 8th instant, says: "Sheridan's whole force commenced falling back down the Valley last night along the pike." Our cavalry were in pursuit. Mr. Powhatan Weisiger, company E, Fourth Virginia cavalry, was severely wounded in the foot in an engagement at Waterbridge, near Staunton, on Sunday, 2d instant, but is now here, doing as well as could be hoped for. From Georgia. It was rumored last night that Hood had defeated Sherman in a general engagement and captured several thousand prisoners.
