A long debate ensued, in which Messrs. Coghill, Brannon, and Neeson participated. On motion of Mr. Robertson, the resolution and substitute were laid upon the table, ordered to be printed, and made the order of the day for Friday. On motion of Mr. Alderson, the Senate adjourned.

Legislature of Virginia. Senate. Friday, Dec. 13, 1861 The Senate was called to order at twelve o'clock by Mr. Johnson, President pro. tem. Appointment of committees. The President appointed the following committees on the part of the Senate under the joint resolutions adopted yesterday. Committee to confer with the President of the Confederate States--Messrs. Thomas, of Fairfax; Logan, Hart, Brannon, and Thompson, of Dinwiddie. Committee to correspond with the lessees of the self works-- Messrs. Dickinson, of Prince Edward; Early, Ball, Neeson, and Witten. Bill passed. A Senate bill authorizing the county courts to certify the insolvent muster fines, in certain counties, was taken up and passed. Resolution of inquiry. By Mr. Wiley, of refunding a tax to Mrs. Elizabeth Reynolds. Bonds of the State. Mr. Robertson presented a memorial from sundry citizens of Richmond, holders of bonds of the State of Virginia, which they have received

By Mr. Newman--Of authorizing proceedings against faithless tenants. Personal explanation. Mr. Spitler arose to a personal explanation. He said: I notice in some of the papers of this morning that a resolution, which I offered on yesterday, has been reported incorrectly, entirely perverting the object which I had

On motion, the bill to authorize a connection between the Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad and the Richmond and Petersburg Railroad, in Richmond, and between the latter and the Petersburg Railroad, in Petersburg, was taken up and made the order of the day for Monday next. Judge Thompson's salary. On motion of Mr.Brannon, the joint resolution directing the Anditor of Public Accounts to pay the salary of Geo. W. Thompson, Judge of the 20th Judicial Circuit, was taken up. Mr. Branon proceeded to give reasons for his belief in judge Thompson's loyalty, among which was his refusal to take the oath to support the Constitution of the bogus Government of Western Virginia, in consequence of which he was now out of office. His sons had taken up arms for the South, and one of them had lost his life.--Judge Thom
