The Banner of the South.
this song was sent to the Editor of the rebellion record, with the following authority:
you will please find enclosed a rebel song, written in July last, soon after the Union defeat at Manassas.
It was taken from an old vest pocket after the rebels evacuated Fairfax O. H., by a friend of mine in the glorious army of the Potomac, which he found in a log hut near by, he sent it me with the injunction to keep it in remembrance of him, should he never return.
