The stolen umbrellas. --It is a rare thing to hear of an arrest for stealing umbrellas. If we could recover all that we have lost in this way, we should have enough to set up a secondhand umbrella store. There was an instance yesterday, however, which goes to prove that these useful articles are not public property, all authorities to the contrary notwithstanding. A negro named John was before the Mayor for stealing two umbrellas from Wm. T. Moore; but as John already had a ball through each leg, as elsewhere stated, the investigation was postponed to the 19thinst.--Seventy, another negro, who received the umbrellas from John, was sent down to be punished in the usual way.
