from the Special Committee on the Penitentiary, presented "a bill for the lease of the Penitentiary," which, on his motion, was read twice. Senate bill amending the Pilot laws in regard to the Potomac river was taken up, on motion of Mr. McKenzie, and passed. On motion of Mr. Friend, Senate bill incorporating the James River Boot, Shoe and Leather Manufacturing Company, was read the requisite number of times and passed. Senate bill providing for the better government of the town of Danville, was called up on motion of Mr. Keen, and, being put on its passage, was carried in the affirmative. On motion of Mr. Haymond, the House proceeded to consider the bill making appropriations for the support of government, and for supplying deficiencies in former appropriations. The bill having been variously amended, was passed to its engrossment. A number of unimportant local bills were called up by their patrons and acted on. The House adjourned at 2 o'clock P. M.
