perhaps, twenty men of the original disunion school among the whole body of voters. Now, we think it probable Augusta has voted almost unanimously for secession. As Augusta was a Whig county, so Rockingham along side of it was the stronghold of Democracy. It gave 2,000 Democratic majority. It contains 20,000 whites and 2,300 slaves. The vote for reference was 2,489; the vote against it 589. We imagine, like Augusta, it has given an overwhelming majority for the Secession Ordinance. Rockbridge, the home of Samuel McDowell Moore, has doubtless gone in the same way. Therefore, it is beyond dispute that the people of Virginia have expressed their real wish on this question. The State has left the Union reluctantly, but it has done so by general consent. It is idle for Northern journals to pretend that any terrorism has decided the issue. It is hypocritical to represent that the Union sentiment has been repressed by violence. Therefore the attempt to hold Virginia in the Un
