The contents of the boxes never got to them; but he said that they were devoured by the surgeons and others engaged at the hospital. We hope that there is some mistake about it. If, however, it is true, it is outrageous robbery. We know that in some places sick soldiers are treated like dogs by greedy office-seekers, who aim to profit by their country's misfortunes. Alas, for mankind! It never entered into our mind that a man could be so mean as to steal provisions from a sick soldier. Can such a man have a heart in him? If he has, it is so cold that it would take the fires of Pluto to thaw it. It slanders mankind that such a creature can wear the outward human form, whilst within he has the heart and affections of a hyenas.--Lexington Gazette
