t., publishes the death of a Confederate patriot near Mayfield, named John Milliken. It says: This gentleman, once a good Democrat, and for years postmaster at Paducah, has devoted the last six months to looking for his rights. He was a violent Secessionist, abusive and threatening to Union men in the first district. On Tuesday last, the 19th inst., he went up to Mayfield, as he alleged, to kill a couple of Union men. He attempted to execute his threat, and was killed. Capt. Phil. B. Thompson, of Mercer county, Ky., has been appointed Colonel by the Secretary of War. Texas items. Texas files to the 20th ult., furnish the following items: The Congressional Election.--The following are supposed to be elected: Wilcox, in the first district; Peter V. Gray, in the third; Sexton, in the fourth; and Wright, in the sixth. The other districts are much in doubt. The Inauguration.--Gov. Lubbock and Lieut. Gov. Crockett were inaugurated on the 7th. erk. On motion of Mr. Day, of Isle of Wight, Mr. John A. Jordan was appointed Sergeant at Arms. On motion of Mr. Thompson, of Dinwiddie, Mr. Thos, P. Chisman. was appointed First Doorkeeper. On motion of Mr. Johnson, of Bedford, Mr. E.the rules of the last session were adopted for the Government of the Senate. Governor's Message. On motion of Mr. Thompson, it was Resolved, That a committee of three be appointed to wait upon the Governor and in form him that the Senate is now organized and ready to receive any communication from him. Committee--Messrs. Thompson, Robertson, and Neeson. The Committee performed the duty assigned them, and the Governor communicated his message, which was laid upon the table the Common Council of the city of Richmond, for the legalization of small notes issued by the Corporation. Referred to the appropriate committees. On motion of Mr. Thompson, the Senate adjourned to meet again on Wednesday at 12 o'clock.
