irmish on Saturday. On Sunday quite an exciting little fight took place near McGaheysville, in which portions of the cavalry companies of Captains Baylor and Shands were engaged on our side. In this engagement, we regret to learn, Capt. Baylor received a very serious wound, from which he has since experienced great sufferingccident occurred which cast a deep gloom over Ashby's camp and by which the life of a most gallant and meritorious officer was lost. It seems that a member of Capt. Shands's company was removing a loaded musket from a wagon, when it was accidentally discharged, and the bill passed through the heart of Capt.
