cksburg Whig reports that Captain Hoskin's battery opened effectively on the enemy's transports at Grand Gulf, causing a hasty retreat of the enemy, who subsequently shelled the town. They said that they were in no hurry about Vicksburg. Gen. Lovell has received an official dispatch, dated 28th, which says that two Federal officers and three men were killed at Baton Rouge.
