, by breaking and entering the stable of Asa Snyder, in the night time, and stealing a chisel from Chas. W. Allen, worth $5, was set to the bar, and after an examination, was discharged. Jordan, slave of Jno. N. Thacker, was put on trial for stealing one gold watch, of the value of $95, and one coat, of the value of $45, on the 31st day of Oct., from James White, a free negro. He was found not guilty of the offence. Beverly, slave of James H. Grant, was tried for having, on the 3d of Dec., made an assault on John Lloyd, a white man, and, by putting him in bodily fear, did steal $60 worth of C. S. Treasury notes, and other writings of value. The Court not being unanimous in its opinion as to the guilt of said prisoner, do order that he receive 39 lashes on Wednesday and the same number on Saturday next for said offence.
