Assumption of authority.
--A man named R. W. Wood, Orderly Sergeant for Mel. Peyton, at Camp Lee, came to the Passport Office on Wednesday evening and represented himself as a Confederate officer, with authority from Col Shields to arrest deserters.
Wood, who was partially corned, represented that a man had attempted to knock him down while in the execution of his duty.
On sending an officer with him it was found that he had attempted to knock down somebody himself, who had very properly resisted his assumption of authority.
Wood was sent to Camp Lee for punishment.
