Dr. Rucker En Routs to the Enemy's Lines Dr. Wm. P. Rucker, charged with murder and other crimes, who escaped from the Pittsylvania co. (Va.) jail, has doubtless made his way into the enemy's lines. The Fincastle (Va.) Express says: He passed through Covington on the morning of the 29th, about 3 o'clock. Calling at the door of an old acquaintance and making inquiry "if the bridge was guarded?" he was recognized, but before pursuit could be made was some distance on the way. After daylight, when men and horses were collected to make pursuit, he had left the road, some nine miles west of Covington and concealed himself in a gorge of the mountain, where he was accidentally discovered by Mr. John Wyatt, who was unarmed; and on Rucker's appeal to be furnished with food, and allowed to rest until night, at the same time showing his six shooter, Wyatt took him food, and then returned to inform the Provost Guard of his lurking place.
