After the reading and signing of the orders, it being the last day of the Court, Mr. Aylett, the District Attorney, invited the attention of the Judge, and said that it was his official duty to mention to the Court what had been reported to him by one of the Marshals, as a contempt of the mandate of the Court, by Mr. Alexander, the head jailor at Castle Thunder. The Court, on Friday, ordered the discharge of eight citizens of Rockingham co., Va., from Castle Thunder, upon their writ of Habeas corpus, and ordered the confinement of the prisoners in Henrico county jail until they could be removed to Staunton for trial before Judge Brockenbrough. As the prisoners wished to get their clothing from Castle Thunder, Mr. Myers, Deputy Marshal, allowed them to visit the military prison for that purpose, accompanied by himself and the guard.
