Virginia Conference, M. E. Church, South--first day. --This body convened in annual session at the Broad Street Methodist Church in this city, yesterday morning. The deliberations of the Conference are presided over by Bishop Pierce, with Rev. P. Whitehead as Secretary, and Rev. P. A. Peterson as Assistant Secretary. The Conference Committee were called, but not being prepared to report the Chair proceeded to call the Conference roll by districts, when each presiding elder reported upon the condition of his district, and the character of each minister within his bounds. When the name of the Rev. Mr. Archer, of the Mecklenburg circuit, was called, his presiding elder, Rev. Nelson Head, rose and stated that in the early part of the year Bro. Archer came under a serious charge, deeply affecting his character for morality. He had been tried by a civil court and acquitted, and by a committee of the Church, which also acquitted him.
