From Georgia. Macon, July 31. --A force of cavalry appeared in Jones county day before yesterday. Night before last they cut the Central railroad in two places — at Gordon and near Walnut Creek bridge, two miles from here. At the same time they made a demonstration on Macon, and were repulsed yesterday after some severe skirmishing. During the fight several shells were thrown into the suburbs. One fell in the city. It is not known what damage has been done to the railroad. Thtween Clinton and Monticello. When our cavalry were operating against them they apparently made Clinton the centre, from which they sent out parties to operate against Macon, Griswoldville, Gordon, and the line of the railroad at this place and Griswoldville. They were repulsed at the latter place, but succeeded in burning twenty-seven cars. At Gordon they burnt about thirty cars and the freight depot, and Oconee bridge and the track. The telegraph line is only partially destroyed.
