An army Anecdote. --The Monticello (Fla) Friend publishes the following: Dr. Palmer, Surgeon of the 2d Florida regiment, relates a good joke on himself, which happened during one of the hotly contested battles below Richmond. It appears the Doctor always endeavored to select a building for a hospital as near the point where the battle raged as possible. On this occasion no suitable building could be found, and the shade of a large tree has resorted to. Upon approaching the places, gentleman, in citizen's dress, was observed its trunk. Dr. P., supposing him to be a stranger from one of the regiments, demanded to know what he was doing there. The only reply made by the old gentleman was: "I reckon there is room enough for both of us." The Doctor manifested some displeasure at this very unsatisfactory reply; but proceeded immediately to clear the ground for the reception of wounded soldiers.
