Obstruction. --The Mayor yesterday fined auctioneer Willis $10 for obstructing the east sidewalk of 15th street, between Main and Cary, by his auction sales. He not only decided that an auctioneer had no right to obstruct the walks with his goods, but that he had no right to stand in his door and make sales, if by so doing a crowd was attracted and the sidewalks obstructed.
George Payne (search for this): article 12
Died under the operation. --Sergeant George Payne, of the 48th Georgia regiment, died recently in Richmond, while undergoing an operation which was being performed on his person. This young gentleman had the lower part of his face shot away at the battle of Fredericksburg, and strange to say, he recovered from his severe wound. He came to Richmond a short time back for the purpose of having an operation performed, with a view to restore his chin, but he died from the severe suffering which he had to undergo.
