The soldiers giving to the poor of the City.
We know of nothing which has occurred during this war, which is more inexpressibly touching than the noble generosity of our soldiers, acknowledged in the card below, by the Chairman of the Christian Association.
Such deeds as these will be recorded on a page as bright as that on which are inscribed the battles in which they have shed their blood, that their country might live:
Depot Army Committee Y M C A., Richmond, June 14, 1864.
The Army Committee acknowledge with pleasure the receipt of one day's rations, contributed by the gallant soldiers of Gen Lee's army, for the benefit of the poor of this city, as follows:
From Gen C A Evans's Brigade.
From 1st regiment, 2d, 5th and 6th Rifles, and Palmetto Sharpshooters, of S C Volunteers, Jenkins's Brigade, per Joseph Mayo, Esq, Mayor.
