Pediment

Triangular space formed at the ends of a building with a two pitched roof, often containing sculpture and/or decoration, and resting on the entablature.

Description: It was the crowning feature of the Greek temple. It is defined along the two sloping edges of the roof by the raking, or sloping, cornice, and along its base by the horizontal cornice. The triangular, recessed vertical wall enclosed by the pediment is known as the tympanum.
