KASIANON Constanţa, Romania.

Along the deep valley of the Casimcea, 2 km from the present-day village of Seremet are rocks with Greek inscriptions, at each end of a gorge in the steep mountain overhanging the site. These inscriptions mark the boundaries (horoi) either of a rural settlement whose inhabitants called themselves Kasianoi, or of a sacred enclosure dedicated to Zeus Kasios. In the first case, the name of the vicus in question certainly must have been Kasianon; in the second case, the site probably was rather a community of worshipers that took their name from that of the god who was venerated on these mountains. Up to the present time no systematic digging has been done to settle the question.
